My work in recovery is shaped by both lived experience and long-term professional practice. I’ve been sober since 2015. Like many people, I spent decades trying to recover within systems that never quite fit. What stayed with me early on was a deep understanding that recovery is not one-size-fits-all — and that many people need spaces that allow for nuance, agency, and care.

A pivotal influence in my own recovery was my work with the late Dr. William H. Grier, a psychiatrist whose integrative approach helped me see healing as something that could be layered, personalized, and sustained over time. That experience became the foundation of how I understand recovery today.

In 2016, I founded Served Up Sober, a nonprofit focused on expanding access to holistic recovery support for women in marginalized communities. Through this work, I designed and facilitated programs that integrated mindfulness, restorative practices, nutrition, and collaborative care — and partnered closely with licensed clinicians and facilitators to meet people where they were.

Over time, my work expanded beyond direct facilitation into leadership and advisory roles. I currently serve as a trusted advisor to She Recovers and as a member of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Committee at the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP). These roles reflect my ongoing commitment to recovery spaces that are ethical, inclusive, and grounded in real human need.
How This Work Began
Where Philosophy Meets Practice
Shari’s work reflects the full arc of her journey — from lived experience to nonprofit founder, from guiding women in marginalized communities to advising national organizations. She brings the compassion of someone who has walked the path, the credibility of a certified professional, and the discernment of a trusted advisor. Guided by authenticity, holistic healing, and the belief that recovery thrives in connection, her purpose remains the same: to create spaces where recovery is dignified, authentic, and sustainable.
